4 Ways to be Assured

Posted on March 22, 2010 in Blog, Congregational Resources, Sunday Sermons

Yesterday, Pastor Emilio (continuing his exposition through 1-3 John) taught us four ways in which we can be assured. The text he preached from was 1 John 4:13-16 and the outline is as follows:

  • 4 Ways we can be Assured
    1) Through the Spirit (1 John 4:13)

    • To Pray (Rom. 8:15, 26 | Gal. 4:6 | Eph. 6:18 | Jude 1:20 | 1 Cor. 14:2, 14-16)
    • To Comprehend Theology (Eph. 3:16-19)
    • Teach us, testify, lead us, convict us, ect…

    2) Apostolic Witness (1 John 4:14, 1:1-4)

    • What they saw
    • What they testify

    3) Confession (1 John 4:15)

    • Before men (Matt. 10:32)
    • Orthodox doctrine (2 John 7)

    4) Abiding in Love (1 John 4:16, 3:16-19)

Preaching on the first point he noted that we often neglect the third person of the Godhead, God the Holy Spirit, to whom assurance ultimately relies on, and some of the means the Holy Spirit uses to assure us. More on this from the clip below (under 3 minutes):
