Assurance, Prayer, & Deadly Sin
In continuing with our sermon series through 1-3 John, Pastor Emilio Ramos preached on “Assurance, Prayer, & Deadly Sin” from 1 John 5:13-17.
The outline is as follows:
- Assurance, Prayer, & Deadly Sin
- The assurance of eternal life (1 John 5:13)
- The confidence of prayer (1 John 5:14-15)
- The threat of deadly sin (1 John 5:16-17)

While on the first point Pastor Emilio drew out some implications of what it means to have eternal life. (2 minute clip below):

When we hit verse 1 John 5:16 (“sin leading to death”), it was pointed out that some commentators and some theologians agree that this is one of the most difficult verses in the Bible to interpret. After much study and many Sunday’s making our way through 1 John, Pastor Emilio boiled this verse down to two main views, the first of which he leans toward. He begins to present this position in the 3 minute clip below:
