Walk in Discernment

Posted on July 26, 2010 in Blog, Sunday Sermons

In continuing with our sermon series through 1-3 John, Pastor Emilio Ramos preached “Walk in Discernment” from 2 John 7-9.

In his introduction, Pastor Emilio addressed the popularity of being health conscience (to which there is nothing wrong with that) but our priority as Christians needs to be a different kind of health… one that will benefit us not only in this life but also in the life to come:

“for bodily discipline (exercise) is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”

- 1 Timothy 4:8

What does the Bible say it means to be healthy (3 minute clip below):

The outline is as follows:

Why we want to walk in discernment…

  1. Because of Deceivers (2 John 7 | 2 Tim. 2:14-18)
  2. Corporate Self-awareness (2 John 8)
  3. To Abide in Christ (2 John 9)

Like here in John, the authors of Scripture charge us to hold fast to sound/healthy doctrine and warns us with apostasy. This is why it is important for a church to be discerning and it is a shame for us to not have knowledge of God (Is. 30:10-11 | Jer. 5:31 | 1 Cor. 15:34 | 2 Pet. 3:18) (4 minute clip below):

Pastor Emilio then dealt with the objection (concerning discernment) that says we don’t need to be confrontation (Prov. 2:2-5, 23:23) (3 minute clip below):
