Manner of Taking Communion
Sunday School info is at the bottom of this post.
In continuing with our sermon series through 1 Corinthians, Pastor Jay Jesuroga preached from 1 Corinthians 11:27-34, a message entitled “The Manner of Taking the Lord’s Supper“.

After starting off with reviewing the last two sermons, “The Abuse of the Lord’s Supper”, and “4 Theological Truths Taught in the Lord’s Supper”, Jay preached the following from the text:
5 Ways We Are To Observe The Lord’s Supper:
- In a worthy way (not unworthily) (1 Cor. 11:27)
- Examine and judge ourselves (1 Cor. 11:28)
- Discern/judge the Lord’s body (1 Cor. 11:29)
- Know that God will judge those who take the Lord’s Supper in an unworthy way (1 Cor. 11:30-32)
- Prefer others before ourselves (1 Cor. 11:33-34)
How does one take the Lord’s Supper “in an unworthy manner”? And what can we do to not become guilty of this? (3 minute clip below):

At this time Jay quoted the following from chapter 15 from the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith:
4. As repentance is to be continued through the whole course of our lives, upon the account of the body of death, and the motions thereof, so it is every man’s duty to repent of his particular known sins particularly.
Paul said that because the Corinthians were taking Communion in an unworthy manner that, “for this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep” (1 Cor. 11:30). Does God still do this? Is this different than the way God judges the unbelieving world? (3 minutes):

Jay gave a quick 1 minute qualifying statement on unity and division in the church:
