In continuing with our sermon series through 1 Corinthians, Pastor Jay Jesuroga preached from 1 Corinthians 15:20-28, a message entitled “Union With Christ & Future Resurrection“.

Our Future Resurrection is based on our Solidarity (communion/fellowship/union) with Christ:

  • This passage is Paul’s Eschatology
  • 1 Cor. 15:20 – resurrection is a fact of history therefore everything in vs. 12-19 are reversed. We now have a future and a hope. We don’t have to be afraid of death.
    • God’s going to redeem our bodies [Is. 26:19]
    • Christ is the first fruits – the first to have a resurrected body
  • 1 Cor. 15:21-22 – reason for our assurance / hope in this resurrection [Rom. 5:17-18]
  • 1 Cor. 15:23 – Paul tells us the order of the resurrection [1 Thess. 4:13-18 | Mt. 24:30-31]
  • 1 Cor. 15:24 – ‘then comes the end’ – doesn’t’ seem to be a long time
    • Consummation of all things [Eph 1:20-22 | 2 Thess. 1:8-10]
  • 1 Cor. 15:25 – Christ is already reigning and will continue to reign until this is accomplished [Ps. 110:1]
  • 1 Cor. 15:26 – death has reigned like a tyrant over all men because all are in Adam
    • When is this accomplished? Vs. 23 at the 2nd coming
  • 1 Cor. 15:27-28 – Ps. 8 originally to man but Paul applies this to Christ
