Pastor Jay has said before that we could all benefit from growing in our understanding of the doctrine of the church (Ecclesiology). Well, through Nov. 30, 2012 you can download a FREE audiobook that will help:
“Christians today define mission more broadly and variably than ever before. Are we, as the body of Christ, headed in the same direction or are we on divergent missions?
Some argue that the mission of the Church is to confront injustice and alleviate suffering, doing more to express God’s love for the world. Others are concerned that the church is in danger of losing its God-centeredness and thereby emphasize the proclamation of the gospel. It appears as though misunderstanding of mission persists.
Kevin DeYoung and Greg Gilbert believe there is a lot that evangelicals can agree on if only we employ the right categories and build our theology of mission from the same biblical building blocks. Explaining key concepts like kingdom, gospel, and social justice, DeYoung and Gilbert help us to get on the same page—united by a common cause—and launch us forward into the true mission of the church.”

SovJoy parents, if you see this before church today, please bring a note pad and writing utensil to church for each one of your children. We are starting our section on prayer and we will be having them write down the things they want to talk to God about over the next week. I will also have plenty of spare paper and pencils for the kids that don’t bring any.
Also, we will be introducing them to the Lord’s Prayer today.. the version in the Catechism (Question 96). Over the next couple months, we will be encouraging the parents to help their children memorize the Lord’s Prayer. Feel free to give your children a head start by discussing the Lord’s Prayer with them this morning.
This Sunday we will have Pastor Larry Vincent preach during our 3pm service.
Pastor Larry has been an elder at Heritage Baptist Church in Mansfield, TX. since 1995.

While Pastor Jay is on vacation he has entrusted a dear friend to him, Pastor Andrew, to fill in during our services. Here is what Pastor Andrew plans on teaching/preaching during the next two services:
- Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012:
- Sunday Seminary – Presuppositional Apologetics (focusing on Islam)
- Sunday Worship – A Witness for Christ (Voice of the Martyrs)
- Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012:
- Sunday Seminary – Presuppositional Apologetics (focusing on Buddhism)
- Sunday Worship – Ministry/Missions presentation and sermon from Deut. 29
Andrew has served as pastor for the last ten years. He is happily married to Cindy and they have two happy children who love to tell people of King Jesus. In addition to the pastorate, he is a Chaplain with the LAPD. His ministry focus is equipping pastors and planting healthy churches among the persecuted believers of East Asia. Believers in East Asia were targeted for their faith in Christ and their freedom to worship God without the control of the authorities. Believers were jailed and tortured for refusing to renounce Christ. Andrew’s passion is to trained the pastors and to plant healthy Bible churches among the persecuted believers.
